Towards the end of last year, I shared a clip from Tim Runia’s talk about how he overcame imposter syndrome and loads of you found it super valuable (shoutout to anyone who replied to that email 🙌), so I wanted to share another piece of content from that same conversation.
Quick bit of context if you missed the first email: Tim’s a filmmaker from the Netherlands who ran a video agency for 7 years, directing and editing everything from documentaries to bigger commercials.
But he eventually stepped away from client work and decided to go all-in on YouTube after watching other creators (including myself 😉) build successful channels and businesses on the side.
He’s now got 100k subscribers (his channel’s great so please do subscribe) and the reason why I love sharing these clips from other people is because sometimes it’s easier to relate to someone who’s just a few steps ahead of you on the journey – rather than someone like myself with over 6 million subscribers and a million dollar business 😅
This particular clip is about how Tim approached creating and selling his first few digital products as a creator, which have already made him about $20K in just two months.
He’s now working on higher-ticket offerings, but the point isn’t the numbers – it’s the approach he took to get started.
A lot of people – including many of our Part-Time YouTuber Academy students – get stuck in this weird paralysis around selling. They’re afraid of charging real money for something. They’re worried about what their friends and family might think. They’re terrified of being “salesy” and so they stay stuck in overthinking mode, trying to build the perfect course or product right away.
But you don’t need to figure out every problem your audience has before you start. You just need to solve the first one, and then the next problems will naturally emerge from actually serving people.
Anyway, I’ll let you watch the full recording where Tim shares his framework for thinking about all this – you can click the link below to check it out 👇
Hopefully that provides you with some inspiration and if you want to know where Tim got started with his products see below 👀
